Termite Treatment and Prevention Options

Is your home threatened by termites?

Are Termites Threatening Your Home?

At Healthy Homes Pest Control, we protect homes from the hidden, costly damage caused by subterranean termites using a prevention-first, science-based approach. Our termite services are designed for existing homes and new construction across Central Virginia and focus on long-term protection—not just short-term fixes.

After a thorough inspection, our technicians install Trelona® Termite Bait Stations around your home’s perimeter to intercept termites before they reach the structure. If an active infestation is already present, we combine baiting with targeted Termidor® liquid treatments to stop the infestation quickly and provide ongoing protection.

Every home is different. Soil conditions, moisture, construction type, and surrounding features all influence termite risk. That’s why we tailor every treatment plan to your property—inside and out—to give you effective protection.

Why Termites Invade Homes.

Subterranean termites are widespread throughout the region. A recent study by North Carolina State University found an average of 25 colonies per acre. Termites live underground and are constantly searching for moisture and wood. Common conditions that increase the risk to your home include:
  • Wood-to-soil contact (porches, siding, steps, decks)
  • Excess moisture from poor drainage or damp crawlspaces and basements
  • Mulch or firewood piled close to home foundations
  • Cellulose debris (wood or cardboard) around the house or in crawlspaces
Because termites feed from the inside out, serious structural damage often occurs long before any signs are visible. Homeowner’s insurance typically does not cover termite damage, which makes proactive prevention one of the most important steps you can take to protect your investment.

Proven, Ongoing Termite Prevention.

Visual inspections alone cannot reliably prevent termites. That’s why we do not offer stand-alone annual inspections as a prevention strategy. Instead, we rely on continuous, year-round protection using environmentally responsible, professional baiting systems.

Our termite prevention programs include:
  • Installation of Trelona® bait stations around the exterior perimeter of the home to provide year-round termite colony elimination
  • Annual professional maintenance and bait replenishment
  • A renewable termite treatment warranty covering any additional treatment needed if termites return

Treatment for Active Infestations.

When termites are already present, we employ a two-step remediation process:
  • Step 1: Targeted Termidor® liquid spot treatments at the site of the infestation
  • Step 2: Full perimeter installation of Trelona® bait stations for long-term control

All active treatment plans include the initial service followed by enrollment in our monthly warranty and maintenance program. This ensures continued monitoring, ongoing protection, and prompt response if termite activity is detected again.

Our goal is not just to eliminate the termites you can see—but to stop the colony you can’t, and prevent future infestations before they start.

New homes are required to have termite protection installed as part of the construction process.

New Construction Termite Protection.

We install Trelona® baiting systems for new construction as a primary termite prevention method. Builders typically pay for installation which includes a one-year warranty, and we provide the required HUD-NPMA-99-B treatment certificate. Homebuyers then have the option to continue coverage with a monthly warranty and maintenance plan after the first year.

The Trelona baiting system establishes an active monitoring and control zone in the soil where termites live and travel, intercepting them before they can reach the structure. Unlike traditional pre-construction liquid soil treatments, baiting systems continue working year after year without breaking down or being disturbed by soil movement, landscaping, or grade changes.

This approach gives builders a reliable, environmentally responsible termite prevention option and gives homeowners peace of mind knowing their new home is protected by an ongoing system—not a one-time application.

WDI / Real Estate Termite Inspections.

We perform Wood Destroying Insect (WDI) inspections for real estate transactions and refinances and document the results using the industry standard NPMA-33 inspection report form.

Our inspections focus on identifying active infestations, past evidence of termite activity, and conditions conducive to future problems, providing buyers and lenders with clear, documented findings.

We conduct each inspection thoroughly and objectively, ensuring all parties receive accurate information to support informed real estate and financing decisions.

If termites are found, the cost of the inspection can be applied toward treatment. Inspections are paid at the time of service to avoid delays or non-payment issues at closing.
